Our Building

In the latter half of the 19th century, many small-scale local breweries operated in the city and suburbs of Melbourne. The distinctive Disegno building was once part of the Castlemaine Brewery, 129 Queensbridge Street, Southbank.

Castlemaine Brewery’s ‘Brew Tower No. 2’ was constructed in 1888 with two-storey cellars on either side. It is the best preserved of only three of these unique structures still existing in Melbourne.

The polychromatic brickwork (which once extended to the buildings on either side), combined with arched windows, high-hipped roof and multiple dormer ventilators, gives this landmark building its typical ‘brew tower’ look.
